Did you know that the world-famous phrase "I love New York", invented in the 1970s, is both the slogan and the name of the marketing campaign for the state of New York and New York City in particular? Because the Big Apple had a rather bad reputation at the time due to violent and drug-related crime, the city decided on a broad-based image campaign.
The world-famous "I love New York" logo that can be seen on this black oven glove was designed by graphic designer Milton Glaser during a taxi ride in 1975 as part of the above-mentioned campaign. Since the designer did not believe in the success of the campaign, he did not charge a fee for developing the logo.
