The family-owned company Nielsen Massey was founded in Sterling, Illinois, in 1907. Since the mid-1910s, the company has specialized in the production of natural, pure vanilla products and food flavors. In 2005, new flavors were introduced to the classic vanilla extracts in the range, including almond, chocolate, coffee, orange and peppermint. In 2006, Nielsen-Massey was the first US company to be certified for gluten-free food products and since 2013 it has also been the first company in the world to produce organic fair trade bourbon vanilla extract from Madagascar. For over 100 years now, the family-run company has been producing natural vanilla extracts and food flavors of the highest quality, which makes the products popular around the world.
